Premier League Free Tip – Arsenal v Newcastle

With Wigan now the first ever team to win the FA Cup and be relegated in the same season, the final day drama of this Sunday’s Premier League fixture list, which promised so much a few weeks ago, now has a very underwhelming look to it.

There will be no incredible Sergio Aguero moment for Sky TV to constantly remind us of for the next 11 months, and no Houdini like escape at the bottom of the table. The only games with any meaning attached to them are Newcastle v Arsenal and Tottenham v Sunderland.

Spurs must better the Gunners result in order to finish in 4th position, if not, there will be no Champions League preliminary in August and the very real chance of losing Gareth Bale in the transfer window.

There is another outrageous but not completely far-fetched possibility where Chelsea and Arsenal may have to face each other in a play-off to decide who comes 3rd – for this to happen Chelsea must draw at home to Everton (not beyond the realms of imagination) e.g 1-1, and Arsenal must win by 2 more goals than Chelsea have scored and by a winning margin of 1 goal e.g 3-2. This would mean both clubs would have identical points/goal difference/goals scored and would have to play a one off game to decide who automatically qualifies for the Champions League.

Back in reality, as Newcastle have secured their Premier League status, the match on Sunday should be an open, attacking game with Arsenal needing to register as many goals as possible in order to usurp Chelsea. The 7-3 scoreline from their previous meeting at Christmas time was the highest goal tally in a Premier League match this season and I can definitely see this match ending in Over 2.5 goals being scored at 1.67 euro odds – 4/6.

The famous 4-4 at St James Park two seasons ago was one of the greatest comebacks of recent times, as Newcastle came back from 4-0 down, roared on by the 52,000 Geordie faithful. Arsenal will surely not let something like that slip on Sunday, but it should be a highly entertaining encounter as the Toon Army will create a boisterous atmosphere for the final game of the campaign.
