Free Spanish Primera División Tip – Barcelona v Real Madrid

The crucial encounter of this season’s Primera Liga has arrived as Real Madrid face arch rivals Barcelona at the Camp Nou this Saturday evening.

Pep Guardiola’s defending Champions, Barca, must strive for all 3 points in this Clasico, to cut Madrid’s lead at the top to just 1 point with 4 games to play.

Barcelona’s commitment to going forward has seen them register 64 goals from 16 home games this season, with 15 of them ending an over 2.5 goal result.

Jose Mourinho will have been encouraged by Chelsea’s ability to catch Barca on the counter-attack in the Champions League semi-final 1st leg, and he would hope his considerably faster and deadlier forward players will be able capitalise on this with more efficiency; since the beginning of October Real have scored in every away game they have played in La Liga, culminating in an incredible total of 38 goals in only 13 matches.

Of course, the atmosphere of a Clasico is always tense with chances at a premium, and Mourinho is certain to play for a draw, but I believe Barca’s need for a win plays straight in to Madrid’s hands and will yield them a goal on the counter-attack.

An early goal for Benzema at the Bernabeu in December made for a very open game, and saw Barcelona eventually come back to win 3-1.

If the game goes the other way however, and Barcelona score first, this also works out well for the over 2.5 goal scenario because Madrid will need to push forward, giving Barca the space they thrive in on their enormous pitch in Catalonia.

The ability of this group of players (the Barca & Real forward line) to convert those rare opportunities is what makes this game likely to end in an over 2.5 goal result; the form of Messi and Ronaldo has been well documented this season – both sit at the top of the Pichichi scoring charts with 41 league goals each, from only 32 and 33 games played respectively (below).

Top 10 – Forwards
Lionel Messi 41
Ronaldo 41
Radamel Falcao 22
Gonzalo Higuaín 21
Karim Benzema 18
Llorente 16
Soldado 16
Rubén Castro 14
Arouna Koné 13
Miku 11

The form of both teams has been excellent recently, with goals coming from all areas of the pitch (not just Messi & Ronaldo), including the susbstitutes bench; Argentine, Gonzalo HIguain, has an impressive 21 for Madrid in only 16 starts.

His strike partner and Madrid regular, Karim Benzema, has also weighed in with 18 goals, and is finally fulfilling his promise in becoming one of the most accomplished and skilful No. 9’s in world football, right alongside Arsenal’s  Robin Van Persie.
