I’ve had a look at the betting market payouts as bookies take a different cut depending on the football market (1X2, Under/Overs, AH etc).

If you look at the below stats you’ll see which bets pay out the most to the customer (closer to 100% the better)

Man City v Arsenal

Win-Draw-WIN 97.8%

AH -1 City – 98.6%

BTTS – 97.1%

Double Chance – 96%

Draw No Bet – 95.9%

Over/Under 3.5 – 95.8%

Over/Under 2.5 – 95.1%

Liverpool v West Ham

Win-Draw-WIN 98.8%

BTTS – 97.1%

Double Chance – 96.4%

Draw No Bet – 95.9%

Over/Under 3.5 – 95.7%

AH -1 Liverpool – 95.5%

Over/Under 2.5 – 94.7%

Newcastle v Tottenham

Win-Draw-WIN 98%

AH -1 Tottenham – 97.5%

BTTS – 97.4%

Draw No Bet – 96.4%

Double Chance – 95.8%

Over/Under 2.5 – 95.6%

Over/Under 3.5 – 94.8%

This is pretty much what I would expect which bodes well if you are backing 1X2 bets. Basically, the percentages above are what goes back to customers so if its 97.8%, the bookie takes a 2.2 margin whatever the outcome.

The higher the bookie margin the harder it is for us to profit on.

The best markets seem to be 1X2 AH and BTTS, Double Chance and DNB also are not too bad.

This is Premier League also as soon as you go to any lower divisions or obscure leagues the percentage the bookies take goes up on ALL markets.

You can see it all on oddsportal.com

So if you are going to bet on Football I would recommend the following…

Bet on 1X2, BTTS or AH primarily if you can

If not bet on Double Chance or DNB

Bet on the Main Leagues (if you can), generally the top premier leagues (although Scotland prem is not good, and conversely English championship and league 1 & 2 are fine)

Basically, bookies appear to take more money from customers on certain markets, probably a lot to do with liquidity and a lack of confidence in their ability to correctly price up lesser known matches, so they just build in a bigger profit margin to ensure they make a profit.

If you want to bet on something like an Anytime Goalscorer or something more exotic this is something to just judge yourself as its difficult to see on what players the bookmaker makes the edge on this.

Personally, I think markets such as correct score, first goalscorer, number of cards etc are all difficult and only make sense if you have some specialist knowledge or you know the price you are getting is “value”. If you do have unusual methods on these markets get in touch! As would love to know how others make these kinds of bets work.

Germany have just crashed out of the World Cup 2018 in embarrassing fashion, with the 2014 winners, and many people’s favourites, failing to qualify from the group stage of the competition.

Very few would’ve predicted that Joachim Low’s side would fail to progress from Group F, where they were up against Sweden, Mexico and Korea Republic – four good teams, but not on the same level as Germany. However, Low’s side managed just one victory, losing to both Mexico and Korea either side of their triumph over Sweden, leaving their defence of the trophy in tatters.

This tournament is wild pic.twitter.com/PxfRmCvmyl

— Match of the Day (@BBCMOTD) June 27, 2018

An inquest has already begun in Germany, with many questioning where Low’s side go from here. Even whilst the remainder of the World Cup 2018 takes place, many are wondering the type of side Germany might roll out in two years time, when they could be a very dangerous outfit at Euro 2020, no matter what changes are made now.

Domestically, their players will now be turning their attention to their club season, with players set to return to a number of different countries. The bulk of Germany’s squad will be heading back to their homeland, with many of them part of Bayern Munich’s squad, including captain Manuel Neuer, Matts Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller, who was sensationally dropped by Low after an underwhelming start to the competition.

Bayern’s German contingent will return to their club as heavy, heavy favourites to win next season’s Bundesliga, with Bayern priced at 1/7 in bet365’s Bundesliga betting market. (odds correct 3rd July 2018 and subkject to change)

Even taking into consideration that Germany and the likes of Neuer and Muller have just crashed out of the World Cup 2018 in spectacular fashion, it’s hard to see past Niko Kovac’s side picking up the title next season, after six consecutive titles.

A look back at #FCBayern‘s sixth successive #Bundesliga title

The chasing pack are so often miles behind Bayern, with the final 2017/18 table no different. Bayern finished on 84 points from their 34 fixtures, 21 points clear of Schalke in second.

Next year, though, could well be different in the Bundesliga, particularly if certain members of Bayern’s squad return from the World Cup 2018 with a hangover from a disastrous tournament. Of course, other Bundesliga players will be hurting from failure at the tournament, but for so long, Bayern’s players have been the heartbeat of the national side, transferring their domestic form onto the international stage and vice versa.

World Cup 2018 exit at the group stage has hurt a lot of Bayern’s players, with Neuer’s mistake against Korea Republic, Boateng’s red card against Sweden and Low dropping Muller, all low points for individuals.

Exits like that at a major tournament either make or break players, with many excellent players around the world never fully recovering from disappointment on the biggest stage of all.

Of course, Germany as a nation is hurting badly after such a pathetic defence, but supporters of clubs other than Bayern could take some positives, highlighting World Cup 2018 failure as something that could change the balance of power back in the Bundesliga and potentially end Bayern’s dominance.

Thinking of betting on the 2018 World cup, but don’t know which markets to choose? With 32 teams split into eight groups and hundreds of markets available, it can be hard to know where to start.

At the beginning of the tournament, you might be tempted to try and predict the outright winner and this can be a good time to get decent odds, even on the favourites. However, a lot can happen over the course of a month-long event. Players can get injured, teams can suffer shock results and coaches can even be removed (take Spain for example). So, it is sometimes better to look for value in the shorter term.

Predicting which teams will win or progress from the groups can be a good place to start. By using your knowledge of the game and looking at the statistics, clued up punters can be quite accurate at predicting which teams will finish where in each group.

You bet on who will win the group, who will finish second, third or bottom or that a particular team will or won’t qualify for the next round without specifying position. You can also bet that a team will win all of their group matches.

Beyond the group stages, World Cup betting is all about the individual match-ups. And at this point, you can use the same kind of methodology that you might apply to a domestic cup match. You can look at the statistics and form of each team, historic results and consider factors such as injuries and suspension that have been picked up during the earlier rounds.

Another popular market is the Top Scorer (or Golden Boot) market. Football is all about goals, so it is no surprise that this market attracts a lot of attention. There is even a special award for the players that top the scoring charts. However, the top scorer is not always the player that starts as favourite and much can depend on the overall performance of the team that the player is in. Some of the best goalscorers do not always play for the top teams, so you have to consider how far that player’s team might go in a tournament.

The official Golden Boot, Golden Glove, and Golden Ball have been unveiled ahead of the 2018 #WorldCup…

1️⃣ Top scorer: ______.
2️⃣ Most clean sheets: ______.
3️⃣ Best player: ______.

Who are you backing to win the three individual awards? ? pic.twitter.com/JtXMpeYBhg

— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) June 10, 2018

In Brazil four years ago, the surprise Golden Boot winner was James Rodriguez of Colombia. In a tournament featuring, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Thomas Muller, Alexis Sánchez, Robin van Persie and David Villa, few expected the 22-year-old midfielder to bag the prize.

If you don’t fancy picking the overall top scorer, you can bet on who will score the most goals for a particular team. So if you think Diego Costa will top the Spanish scoring charts, there is a market available for that wager.

The World Cup only comes around every four years. Betting on the tournament can add some extra excitement to individual games and enhance your overall enjoyment of the tournament – especially if you land a winner.

Teams who Could Surprise in the 2018 World Cup Groups

The undeniable beauty of any World Cup tournament is the genuine possibility of upsets. In an instant, players many of us might never have heard of before can become household names, helping their underdog nations achieve surprise results against the powerhouses of the global game.

Think back to Cameroon striker Roger Milla dancing by the corner flag to celebrate his goals at Italy 1990 or, more recently, Costa Rica topping a group that featured Uruguay, Italy and England, then reaching the quarterfinals at Brazil 2014. It’s the stuff that World Cup dreams are made of and make these tournaments all the more enjoyable; especially if you’ve backed some of the less fancied teams.

Following the draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, as we anticipate the thrills and excitement of the tournament beginning in June, the group stage offers some very real possibilities for upsets, with the chance that less fancied nations could make it through to the knock-out stages.

Whichever of the 32 teams competing this summer catch your attention the most, when getting ready to place wagers during the tournament, comparing bookmaker sign up and free bet offers at Oddschecker makes good sense, with many offering enhanced and money-back specials at the World Cup.

As we take a look at three teams that could be the surprise packages during the group stages at the 2018 World Cup, making the most of such offers becomes all the more appealing, for those who fancy a flutter on some of the underdogs.

Group A: Egypt, Russia, Saudia Arabia, Uruguay

As the host nation, the weight of expectation rests firmly on the shoulders of the Russian players and their coaching staff, which makes them one of the favourites to progress from Group A. The potent attacking trio of Edinson Cavani, Luis Suárez and Cristhian Stuani, all of whom have been in superb form this season, also makes Uruguay a team that should progress comfortably.

Assuming with good reason that Saudia Arabia will likely be the group’s whipping boys, Egypt will be the team to watch in Group A, especially boasting Mohamed Salah in their ranks. Although it’s often said that one man doesn’t make a team, the Liverpool forward has been outstanding this season, both in the Premier League and the Champions League. If that form continues, the Egyptians will certainly be capable of springing a surprise or two at the 2018 World Cup.

Group B: Iran, Morocco, Portugal, Spain

Taking a quick glance at this group, Spain and Portugal are the obvious favourites to progress. Both teams are packed with stellar players but the encounter between the two sides could prove decisive and make their respective games against Iran and Morocco all the more important for qualification, with the Iranians potentially the most likely cause any upsets.

Iran manager Carlos Queiroz boasts an enormous wealth of tactical knowledge, particularly when it comes to both Portuguese and Spanish football, which he’ll put to particularly good use when preparing his team for the encounters with those two rivals. They might not boast any famous stars, but Iran under Queiroz have become a tactically flexible side, able to defend and attack well as a compact unit, making them a team that’s very difficult to beat and one that shouldn’t be underestimated.

Group D: Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria

Considering that Lionel Messi is considered one of the clear favourites to top the World Cup scoring charts, many are considering Argentina as a sure bet to qualify from the group stage with ease. Meanwhile, Croatia arguably boast one of the strongest midfields at the 2018 tournament, with players like Ivan Rakitic of Barcelona alongside Mateo Kovacic and Luka Modric of Real Madrid, or Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic of Inter Milan.

However, despite having so many star players in their sides, Argentina scraped into the tournament and Croatia were very hit and miss. Indeed, Croatia actually finished behind Iceland in their qualification group, and as fate would have it, the two sides feature in the same group at the World Cup finals. Few can forget the marvellous support and team determination Iceland showed at Euro 2016, which makes them one of those carefree “nothing to lose” kind of underdogs that few rivals will cherish facing.

The horrors of the 2015-16 season that lead to the Magpies being relegated to the 2nd Division have been put to rest, as Rafael Benitez’s men are back in the Premier league after a gap of 2 years. Newcastle proved that they are no 2nd-tier team by winning the EFL Championship easily. They now begin their 2017-18 campaign at home against the toughest opponents imaginable – Tottenham Hotspur. But the Spurs aren’t witnessing the most confident of beginnings to the new season. Their last 2 outings in the International Champions Cup have been disasters with losses to Roma and Manchester City. Add to that is a spate of injuries lead by Erik Lamela and Danny Rose. Both the players are recouping from injuries sustained in the previous season. So are Son Heung-Min, Victor Wanyama and Kieran Trippier. Pochettino is now left with no option but to try out 20-year old Kyle Walker-Peters in the absence of the dependable Kieran Trippier at the back. Moussa Sissoko also could be another option in the right-back space. The 27-year old Frenchman’s ability to storm down the wings and defend at the same time could give him the edge going into the weekend game. Eric Dier will have a larger role to play in the middle and also at the back what with Victor Wanyama’s start acfor the Newcastle clash in doubt. Toby Alderweirel and fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen look certain to start at St.James Park. Ben Davies will fill in for the injured Danny Rose in the left-back space. Christian Eriksen will have a more attacking role what with the injured Son Heung-Min out for the weekend clash. He along with brilliant Dele Alli will have a key role in getting goals for the Spurs along with their talisman, Harry Kane. Even though not in the best of forms of late, the 24-year old English striker will pose an enormous threat to the Newcastle goal.

At St.James Park, manager Rafael Benitez has been low on signings this season spending just a total of £31.5 million on 4 players – Christian Atsu (Chelsea Mid-fielder), Florian Lejeune (Eibar Defender), Jacob Murphy (Norwich mid- firelder) and Javier Manquillo (Atletico Madrid defender). It’s quite unlikely that Benitez is going to try any of them against Tottenham. But in the strikers department, the Magpies look spoiled for choice. Dwight Gayle, who was rested in the Magpies pre-seaon friendly against Hellas Verona will probably start off in the Tottenham clash. Ayoze Perez, Gayle and the enigmatic 22-year old Serb Aleksandar Mitrovic will take on the striking responsibilities for the home side.

Newcastle’s recent form has been much better than the Spurs. The Magpies lost in just one of the six pre-season games they featured in the July-August period. Nevertheless, Tottenham are the bookmakers’ favourite to win the St.James Park opener.

But surprisingly odds (Bet 365) for a 1-1 are 7/1 while for a 1-0 Tottenham win it’s 15/2 and for a 2-1 win it’s 8/1. Odds (Bet 365) for Newcastle 1-0 and 2-1 wins stand at a steep 16/1 each – the latter could very well be a surprise score.

Harry Kane tops the odds as far as first scorers go at 13/5 while for the Magpies it’s Dwight Gayle at 13/2.

Wales head for Belgrade, Serbia this weekend for a crucial WC 2018 qualifying clash of the Group D cluster that has teams like Republic Of Ireland, Austria, Moldova and Georgia. Wales are presently in the 3rd spot with 7 points from 5 games played so far and 4 points behind their June 11 opponents. The Red Dragons will be without the services of their star player Gareth Bale out on suspension. The Welsh will also be without Aston Villa defender Neil Taylor. red-carded in his country’s qualifier clash against Republic of Ireland in March this year. Coach Chris Coleman will thus have to depend on Sam Vokes (Burnley) and Hal Robson-Kanu (West Brom) to get him goals at the Rajko Mitic Stadium. The midfield looks more solid with folks like Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Joe Ledley (Crystal Palace), Joe Allen (Stoke City) and Tom Lawrence (Leicester City) likely to feature in the starting XI on Sunday., The defensive unit could consist of Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur), Ashley Williams and Gethin Jones (Everton) and James Chester (Aston Villa). The No.1 choice for the goal-keepers position is likely to be Crystal Palace’s Wayne Hennessey.

The Serbian squad has six English-based players with Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Manchester City back Aleksandar Kolarov being the most prominent ones. Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, left-winger Dusan Tadic of Southampton, mid-fielder Harbor Milivojevic (Crystal Palace) and goal-keeper Vladimir Stojkovic (Nottingham Forest) are among the others. Ex-Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic who currently plays for Russian outfit, Zenit Petersburg, should also make the cut in the playing XI for the Wales clash along with those already mentioned.

A win for the Welsh side at Belgrade will be of paramount importance as the outcome of the Republic of Ireland – Austria at Dublin could put immense pressure on their chances of qualifying for WC 2018. The Irish, the favourites for the Dublin clash, would be happy even with a draw given their favourable 2nd position in the Group with 11 points (same as Serbia).

The Welsh have bitter memories of their last trip to the Red Star Stadium when they were humiliated 1-6 by Serbia. But that was way back in 2012 and Chris Coleman’s side now are a much-improved one even without Gareth Bale. But few are wagering on a positive results for the Welsh on Sunday as the odds below would suggest.

odds

Serbia win: 4/5

Draw: 9/4

Wales win: 4/1

Arsenal managed to avoid their fifth successive away defeat by defeating minions, Middlesbrough, 1-2 at the Riverside Stadium on Monday night. But they are far away from the kind of form that would prepare them for positive results in bigger games to come. The Gunners now will have to take on a much more confident Manchester City for A FA Cup semi-final clash at the Wembley stadium on Sunday. For City, Vincent Kompany has announced his return from a prolonged injury spell with a bang, scoring his first goal since August 2015. The veteran Belgian’s stewardship, organization and composure at the back will mean a City side who will be hard to score against. Although Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil got goals in the Gunners win over Middlesbrough, it’s hard to see them make any goal-mouth impact against a CIty defence that suddenly looks much more solid as was evident in their emphatic 0-3 away win over Southampton last weekend. De Bruyne and Leroy Sane are looking swift and incisive as ever with the latter joining the ranks of City’s prolific scorers this season.

A under-pressure Arsene Wenger could try his new 3-4-3 formation that exactly didn’t work wonders with Middlesbrough. With one man less in the defence, the Boro were able to counter-attack and find gaps at will, a aspect that could not have eluded Pep Guardiola as he prepares to meet the Gunners on April 23. It’s hard to imagine what would happen if Alexis Sanchez were to leave the Emirates, for right now he’s Arsenal’s lone saving grace. With forms having completely deserted once-vaunted players like Theo Walcott, Ozil and Olivier Giroud, the Gunners’ only hope of producing something at the Wembley would rest on the brilliant Chilean striker.

Sergio Aguero will be a solid threat to an already shaky Arsenal defence and with the likes of Sterling, Sane, Silva and De Bruyne adding firepower to the City attack, it would be a miracle if Arsenal were to come away with a clean sheet.

Manchester City’s lone win in the FA Cup after 1969 was in 2011. No one excepting Manchester United has won the FA Cup more number of times than Arsenal. Of the Gunners 12 wins so for, two were in as recent as 2014 and 2015. In their present dismal form, few are expecting them to achieve the feat for the 13th time. As for the April 23rd clash at the Wembley, Pep Guardiola’s men are the clear favourites.

Bet 365 odds

Man City win: 10/11

Arsenal win: 29/10

Despite all the appealing slogans and ads about winning, most bookmakers don’t like winners. This is especially true for the biggest European sportsbooks on the market, as they have special departments who track winning players and make sure they are restricted. There are several ways to do it: from limiting the maximum amount the player can bet/win to completely closing his account.

If you are a consistent winner, you probably know that already or you are about to find out at some point. The question is if there is a way to avoid it somehow. While it is not easy, there are things you can do and at least extend the life of your account. In this article, we will try to give you the best advice in this direction.

Use Multiple Bookmakers

This is one of the most obvious choices, but if you manage to spread your bets across several places, you will stay under the radar longer. One of the disadvantages is that your money should be moved between the operators and sometimes you will have to take worse odds, but it’s an inevitable price.

The good thing is that you won’t be winning too much at a certain bookmaker and your accounts will be fully functional. This is essential if you want to keep making money.

Use Betting Exchanges

If you decide to use the services of a betting exchange like Betfair, for example, you can completely avoid the problem. They don’t care who wins and who doesn’t, so they don’t restrict players’ accounts. The issue with this approach is that sometimes there won’t be enough volume for the wager you want to place and this creates a natural limitation. However, if you prefer popular sports, leagues and markets, you will find enough action most of the time.

Check Asian Bookies

Some Asian bookmakers, most notably Pinnacle, have a different strategy and try to reach the highest volumes and balance the books in a way that they don’t really care who wins. Such operators use special software that constantly moves the prices according to the cash flows and adjusts everything. This way, they have a certain percentage of profit, no matter how the games end. These bookmakers gladly accept winners and have very high betting limits. If you are making good money and are tired of trying to find a loophole, they might be the best choice.

The marked difference between Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson, many say, was that Hodgson told players what to do while Allardyce let them do what they want. One talking point was the role of Wayne Rooney as a midfielder instead of a pure forward. But the new England coach did not get in the way of his side’s captain. The result was that Rooney played in a very deep midfield position against Slovakia in Saturday’s World Cup qualifiers and not to much effect.

Dele Alli didn’t start off in the Playing XI, but was introduced in the second half. Having a player like Dele Alli on the bench for so long seemed to be a judgmental error on Allardyce’s part, for proceedings livened up a lot after the introduction of the Tottenham midfielder and probably resulting in England’s last minute goal. Rather Allardyce chose to begin with four of Alli’s Spur team-mates – Harry Kane, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Eric Dier. While Walker, Rose and Dier showed lot of vigor and initiative in the midfield, Kane’s exceptional finishing skills were nowhere to be seen, which is why the omission of someone like Leicester’s Jamie Vardy was truly puzzling.

Raheem Sterling looked his opportunistic self in the first half of the Slovakia match and created a clear chance, but his quality just dipped as the match wore on. John Stones at the back did not have to do much defending thanks to a nearly 70 per cent possession by his team, but showed some real initiative in essaying the ball to midfield and forward positions. Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson spent most of the time acting as defensive shields to Rooney’s midfield position. Gary Cahill hardly had to play the role of a centre-back and was engaged upfront putting his head to ball whenever the opportunity presented itself with no results.

Joe Hart, whose place in the final XI seemed to be in doubt had virtually nothing to do between the posts. It was only Adam Lallana who got plenty of the ball and was able to make deep inroads into a Slovakian defense already weakened by a 57th minute expulsion of Martin Skrtel. He struck the post once and drew a miraculous save from Slovakia keeper Matus Kozacik before netting one in just a minute before the final whistle.

Allaryce had claimed before the commencement of the match that he would be satisfied with 0-0 draw, a result enacted out when the two teams had met in the Euro 2016. But to have produced the same result against a Slovakia down to 10 men would have been inexcusable. Take away Lallana’s performance, it was a lacklustre and average show by England and Allardyce needs to consider himself lucky that he got away with a win on his debut.

Odds for the win were 11/10 and England are now hot favourites to top the group with odds on winning the group at 1/5. With such poor odds on offer for England, Scotland is a better bet for a top 2 finish at 4/5.
