Everton v Tottenham Free Tips

Everton are great to watch under manager Roberto Martínez. Their ability to link up and score goals can be a joy to watch, but there is always a concern about their defensive solidarity. Meanwhile, Tottenham are one of the strongest defensive teams in the league this season. All signs points to another enthralling festive game.

Expectations

After falling 2-1 to Stoke City, Everton battled back before losing 4-3 at Goodison Park. And this appears to be symbolic of their home performances this season. Following 10 home games, Everton had scored 22 goals and conceded 19. Everton’s home games are undeniably exciting, but they are always at risk of dropping points.

Ramiro Funes Mori simply has not been solid enough at centre-back, which is an issue when you consider that 21-year-old John Stones is still learning his craft. Everton have really missed the experienced Phil Jagielka, who is still out with a knee injury. Therefore, it is likely that Everton will give up at least a goal here.

Tottenham endured a bruising encounter with Watford and were just able to win 2-1 despite finishing the game playing against 10 men. Mauricio Pochettino’s team had gone into an early lead through Erik Lamela before being pulled back by Odion Ighalo. This season, Spurs have been pulled back many times after snatching a lead, but they were able to avoid disappointment against Watford.

Pochettino showed a degree of fear against Watford by insisting on playing with five at the back instead of four at the back. After Watford had a man sent off, Spurs were still unable to dominate in midfield. Expect for Tottenham to revert to their familiar 4-2-3-1 to match up against Everton’s equivalent formation.

Tottenham appear to struggle greatly in the second half of their matches, whereas Everton are dangerous for 90 minutes. Martínez’s team plays better football, but needs to learn from the 4-3 defeat to Stoke and tighten up in defence. They have a great chance to beat a Spurs side that have already played so many games this season.
