On the face of it, an end of season clash between Everton and Fulham at Goodison Park may not seem to have too much of a competitive edge. However, there are a few reasons why this game could see at least three goals converted in it come Saturday tea-time.

Fulham will be looking for some revenge after Everton’s rather fortunate 3-1 win at Craven Cottage earlier in the season; a very exciting game, full of chances for the home team, but ultimately converted late on by the men from Merseyside.

Fulham can also jump from 9th to 7th place (ahead of Everton) with a win at Goodison, while Everton will be desperate to maintain their 7th position and stay ahead of bitter city rivals Liverpool, who lie in 8th.

Everton bounced back extremely well from the insufferable disappointment of losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Wembley in the FA cup semi-final, with an astonishing 4-4 draw at Old Trafford against Champions Manchester United last weekend.

The Toffees’ goal scoring form of late has been consistent, as the previous 5 league games show (below).

Last 5 matches : Everton

Man. Utd. 4 4 Everton 22/04/2012
Everton 4 0 Sunderland 09/04/2012
Norwich 2 2 Everton 07/04/2012
Everton 2 0 W.B.A. 31/03/2012
Swansea 0 2 Everton 24/03/2012

14 goals in 5 games is somewhat of a rejuvenation for David Moyes’ men considering their disastrous early season performances. The turning point has clearly been the £5.5m signing of Nikica Jelavic from Glasgow Rangers; the Croatian striker has started his Everton career with 6 goals in his first 6 games.  The crucial re-signing of Steven Pienaar on loan from Tottenham has also transformed Everton into a much more attacking and creative force.

Martin Jol did some excellent business in January too, by adding the muscle bound centre forward, Pavel Pogrebnyak, to his Fulham squad.  The Russian striker has repaid his Dutch managers faith by scoring 6 goals from 8 starting appearances.

Clint Dempsey has been the Cottagers’ main goal-threat this season though; the American is on the transfer radar of the Premier League’s top clubs after scoring a highly impressive 16 goals from a central midfield position.

2-1 is a very popular score-line between these two Historic English clubs; in fact, this fixture has ended up 2-1 to Everton on the last two occasions they’ve met at Goodison Park.
